This position assists the teacher in a classroom within the same age group who are at similar developmental levels. Assistant teachers are educators that promote experiences providing high quality, developmentally appropriate, research based, cognitive and emotional outcomes. Assistant Teachers understand that the foundations for school and life readiness begins at birth. Assistant Teachers will work with the classroom teacher to implement the chosen curriculum in a way that accounts for research on brain development and child directed learning. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Must have a high school diploma or its equivalent. For Alaska only: Must have a high school diploma or its equivalent and a Child Development Associate credential. Must have a minimum of at least one year working in a licensed early learning and care facility. An Associate's Degree in a related area is preferred Associates degree in Early Childhood Development or Child Development, Early Childhood Special Education that encompass the following: child development and learning of children birth through kindergarten; family and community relationships; observing, documenting and assessing young children; teaching and learning; and professional practices and development, including relevant field-based experience, from an accredited institution is required by 2020. (NAEYC accreditation criteria 6.A.05). Must be at least 18 years of age. The position also requires skills and abilities typically gained through 1 year of experience in working with children. Must comply with applicable registration regulations and health requirements for assignment. Must be able to communicate effectively in both oral and written formats. Must demonstrate responsibility, flexibility and sensitivity to children. For Alaska only: Must be at least 18 years of age. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience working with young children from birth to age 5 in classroom setting. An Associate's Degree in a related area is preferred. For Alaska only: Experience working with young children from birth to age 5 in licensed childcare. NAEYC accredited child care preferred. An Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Early Childhood Special Education that encompass the following: child development and learning of children birth through kindergarten; family and community relationships; observing, documenting and assessing young children; teaching and learning; and professional practices and development, including relevant field-based experience, from an accredited institution OR a minimum of 60 college credits with 30 college credits in child development as listed above, will be required beginning in 2020.
