This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Learn more The Psychologist Community Living Center/Palliative Care will facilitate current culture transformation efforts within the Nursing Home Care Unit to develop a home-like and person-centered environment. Responsibilities for this position include: Promote the delivers of evidence-based psychosocial and environmental interventions for reducing behavioral and psychological symptoms, such as agitation, aggression, and wandering, associated with dementia and other neuropsychiatric and mental health conditions; Develops person-centered, culturally sensitive treatment plans to address mental health needs of residents in the nursing home care unit or related outpatient specialty clinic patients. Specific areas of need will generally include adjustment to the nursing home environment, coping with disability, grief and loss, mood and/or anxiety symptoms, and behavioral medicine interventions related to pain, sleep disruption, smoking cessation and promotion of medical compliance. Acts as psychologist for interdisciplinary Palliative Care Team to facilitate interdisciplinary development of interdisciplinary treatment plan and provision of health care services. Performs evaluations for depression, anxiety and dementia as well as other behavioral and mood issues and substance abuse. Provides support services to family members of Veterans receiving care to promote positive coping in anticipatory grief as well as bereavement. Provides structured psychotherapy and counseling to address the adjustment and recovery goals of veterans and family members following evidence-based protocols when available. Compiles with national and local performance measures, including timely health care screening and completion of clinical reminders for all patients. Attend treatment team meetings with designated professionals involved in the service delivery of resident's treatment. Other duties as assigned.
