The full-time temporary Psychologist is located in the Mental Health Service at the San Francisco VA Health Care System (SFVAHCS). The San Francisco VA Health Care System's pain management services are extensive, including options such as tertiary level pain rehabilitation programming, support by interdisciplinary teams affiliated with primary care, collaborations with substance use treatment services, care focusing on perioperative pain management, and individual and group pain psychology interventions. The incumbent psychologist would work as part of interdisciplinary teams, which include physicians, psychologists, physical therapists, a social worker, a nurse, a nurse practitioner, dieticians, a pharmacist, and an occupational therapist. They will complete evaluations to assess appropriateness and readiness for the pain programming and provide evidence-based psychotherapy related to pain management (e.g., Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) in both a group and individual format to support patients in the development of pain self-management skills to help improve functioning and increase engagement with valued living. The SFVAHCS's pain services are housed at the SFVAMC and therefore the incumbent must be able to report for on-site work when needed or determined by program leadership; however, at this time, the incumbent could live locally and tele-work.
