We are looking to hire those with internal drive and compassion in order to promote our company's mission, vision and values through outcome-based strategies which support the principles of Recovery and Trauma informed care.Job DescriptionPeer Case Managers are individuals who have experienced mental illness themselves and are on their own recovery journey. They are well grounded in their own recovery and model competency in ongoing coping skills. As members of the FFACT team, Peer Case Managers/Counselors help clients identify goals that promote recovery, assist them in reaching these goals and assist them in adjusting to successful community living, as opposed to cycling in and out of the jail and in-patient units. Assists program participants to achieve successful independent living, obtaining/maintaining housing, and pursuing vocational/educational goals. Assists program participants in developing effective natural supports and in obtaining, maintaining, and/or using appropriate mental health, medical and community resources. Provides outreach, peer counseling, independent living skills training, and assist with crisis intervention and stabilization. All services are provided under the supervision of a Mental Health Professional. Responsibilities 1.Assists participants in developing successful independent living skills, in order to avoid incarceration.2.Complies with all established Pierce County Jail protocols when doing work at the Jail.3.Assists participants in meeting recovery goals.4.Assists with the development of Independent Supported Housing options for participants.5.Assists participants in identifying and developing vocational and/or educational goals.6.Completes progress notes on time for each service providing a clear, concise description of the client's progress towards recovery goals.7.Practices effective caseload management in ways that meets productivity expectations.8.Completes administrative documentation in a timely and accurate manner.Secondary Functions

Develops and maintains effective working relationships with court personnel, jail staff, community corrections staff, and other community providers. Participate in meetings as needed, representing Greater Lakes Mental Healthcare and the FFACT program positively.

Participates in Agency and Court staffing and clinical reviews as requested.

Attends all Program and Agency mandated trainings and meetings.

May perform special projects as needed.Job ScopeThe Peer Counselor works fairly independently, often out in the community with FFACT team participants, under the supervision of a Mental Health Professional with whom they consult on all non-routine issues. Work involves a variety of routine tasks of low to moderate complexity which is guided by formal policies and general procedures. Communication / Customer ContactsThis position involves a high frequency of communication, in various forms, verbal and written, with participants, other staff, and community partners. Must also abide by all confidentiality laws and pertinent codes of conduct. Knowledge & Skills A knowledge and understanding of mental disorders and basic familiarity with the DSM-V; a basic awareness of substance abuse/dependence issues; knowledge of community resources, with the ability to develop appropriate links for participants; a sensitive perception of the needs of individuals with disabilities; a keen understanding of the importance of clear, professional boundaries, and maintenance of such; possession of proven teamwork skills; competency in written and oral communication skills; and demonstration of good, common sense.Education and/or ExperienceRequires a high school diploma/GED and two years' relevant experience. Prefer an AA in a social services related field. Other combinations of education and experience that provide the required familiarity and skills may be considered. Must be eligible for a Washington State Department of Health Agency Affiliated Counselor. Must be able to pass the Pierce County criminal background check to obtain clearance to enter the Pierce County Jail. Must be or commit to becoming a Certified as a Peer Counselor by the State Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery within one year of employment (see below).Peer Counselor Requirements

Self-identify as a consumer who is receiving or has received mental health services.

Demonstrate having been well-grounded in mental health recovery for at least one year.

Pass a WA State criminal background check (no recent serious convictions).

Complete specialized training approved by the State of WA and passing a written and oral State exam. The training and exam are free. Job Conditions Must be able to work both in and out of the office and go into participants' residences and other facilities, which may require climbing stairs and walking on uneven terrain. Requires a WA State Driver's License, a good driving record, a personal automobile and personal auto insurance. Must be able to speak and hear at normal conversational levels.
