This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Licensure: Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. English Language Proficiency: Social workers must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3j, this part. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations:GS-12 Social Worker (Program Coordinator) Experience/Education: One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. Candidates may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. Licensure/Certification: Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs. Knowledge of program coordination and administration which includes consultation, negotiation, and monitoring. Knowledge and ability to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program. Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program. Skill in organizing work, setting priorities, meeting multiple deadlines, and evaluating assigned program area(s). Ability to provide training, orientation, and guidance within clinical practice. Learn more Permanent Change of Station (PCS): Not Authorized Financial Disclosure Report: Not required The Medical Foster Home Program Coordinator manages the daily operation of the Medical Foster Home program, and provides direct patient care services in the program area. Social Work responsibilities include developing an assessment in conjunction with the interdisciplinary treatment team, the Veteran, family members and significant others, whenever possible. Duties for the position may include but are not limited to: Provides administrative oversight of program and administers information and analytical systems to evaluate and enhance the quality of service provided to Veterans. Develops and implements information systems to track service activities including visits, referrals, inpatient days, patient demographics, equipment utilization and patient satisfaction. Develops implements and evaluates clinical guidelines and protocols to establish appropriate utilization of services. Incumbent is able to demonstrate the ability to design changes based on empirical findings. Provides assessment, treatment, and planning for a complex population of patients which reflect the age-specific, psychosocial, and functional needs of the patient (e.g., spinal cord, geriatric and mental health population). Performs a wide range of psychosocial services and provides technical assistance to state, local, and private agencies, and universities. Technical assistance provided is based on monitoring activities and program reviews, plus development and analysis of information. Performs program analysis, development, review, research, design, and contact work as indicated with various agencies (public, DOD, State, etc.). Coordinate initial fire and safety inspections of homes to ensure the safety of the veteran population served. Thereafter, the incumbent coordinates the inspection of the homes on an annual basis. Performs work related to the review, monitoring, analysis, planning and assessment of the Medical Foster Home Program. Responsible for key project activities related to the planning, development, and implementation of the project component. Monitors Medical Foster Homes with unannounced visits at least once per month. Communicates with entire multidisciplinary team regarding veterans' contentment with home and care received in the home. Addresses any circumstances that may arise during weekly team meeting or sooner depending on issue. Offers consultation to colleagues and students on the psychosocial treatment of patients treated in specialty areas, rendering professional opinions based on experience and expertise and role modeling effective social work practice skills. Teach and mentor staff and students in the special area of practice and to provide supervision for licensure or specialty certifications, as needed. Other related duties as assigned.
